Accessibility in Internet Governance

The Challenge

The Internet Society’s Accessible Standing Group (ASG) sought an innovative solution to increase awareness and advocacy around accessibility and disability-related issues.

The target audience included Accessibility and Disability advocates, whose expertise and passion required a learning experience tailored to their unique needs. Central to the challenge was the need for an eLearning course that addressed the technological barriers faced by individuals with disabilities when accessing Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). The ASG envisioned a program that would not only educate but also exemplify the principles of accessibility in its design.

The Solution

To meet this challenge, we developed a dynamic and fully accessible eLearning experience that set a new standard in inclusivity. At the heart of the solution was a custom-built course player that featured:

Scrollable Transcripts: Learners could follow along with an interactive transcript synced with the course audio. This feature supported diverse learning preferences and ensured that textual content was easily navigable.

Picture-in-Picture ISL Video: A dedicated picture-in-picture window displayed International Sign Language (ISL) videos, designed for hearing-impaired learners. This feature remained visible and resizable throughout the course, ensuring uninterrupted accessibility.
